Stephen B. Smith, MD Biography

Dr. Stephen Smith, Morganton native, attended Clemson University for his undergraduate studies and University of South Carolina School of Medicine for his medical degree.

In the last years of medical school, his desire to pursue family medicine grew with the realization that he didn’t want to be locked into one type of medical specialty. He completed his three years of residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects within his patients.

His decision to return to Morganton to work alongside his father, Dr. Keith Smith, was not a difficult one to make. As a doctor, he hopes to grow alongside his patients and in this unique community.

An outdoor enthusiast, Dr. Smith enjoys canoeing and spending time with his family.
