Oct. 2, 2013, midnight

DURHAM, NC – The Duke University Physician Assistant Program recently announced that Bill Vaassen, a Burke Primary Care of Morganton Physician’s Assistant, was selected to be a 2013 inductee into the Duke Physician Assistant Hall of Fame.

The induction will take place during the PA Day ceremony held at the Duke University Physician Assistant Program on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

Vaassen is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine's Physician Assistant Program. He worked with Drs. Dellinger and Withers for many years in Drexel, NC. Then he realized his special interest/calling in Occupational Health and began the first privately owned occupational health program in Western North Carolina.

Mr. Vaassen joined Burke Primary Care in April 2001 and established Burke Occupational Health as the leading occupational health program serving Burke County businesses.

The Duke Physician Assistant Hall of Fame was established in 2002 to honor alumni who have achieved success in their lives and careers. The first inductees include alumni who have received the distinguished alumnus of the year award since its establishment in 1985.

Graduates of the Duke University Physician Assistant Program are eligible for this distinction. Selection criteria include: • significant and lasting contributions to the success of the PA profession • significant contributions to advancing and improving clinical, education, research and management outcomes • performing outstanding services that improve the health and welfare of local, national and international communities • financial support and personal service to the Duke University Physician Assistant Division

“Bill Vaassen’s recognition from the Duke medical system is indicative of the caliber of health care providers we employ at Burke Primary Care,” said Scott Gallagher, Chief Operating Officer of Burke Primary Care. “We congratulate Bill on this well earned recognition.”
