Physician Assistants Provide a Variety of Patient Care Services

Burke Primary Care’s dedicated healthcare team includes four certified physician assistants (PA-C), David Lange, Burton Moncrief, John Sallstrom and Bill Vaassen. PA-Cs are formally trained to provide diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive healthcare services working under the supervision of a physician. They provide a vital part of the health care team and are charged with a wide range of medical duties.

PA’s treat illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests and x rays and make diagnoses. They also treat minor injuries, instruct and counsel patients, order or carry out therapy and prescribe certain medications.

David Lange served in the US Navy as a Corpsman in Japan and Vietnam caring for wounded and injured Marines. He has been in practice in Burke County for more than 35 years.

Burton Moncrief joined Burke Primary Care following a 25-year career at Broughton Hospital. His focus at Burke Primary Care is on prevention and maintenance healthcare for adults.

John Sallstrom served in the US Air Force for some 20 years, first as a Corpsman and then for 15 years as a Physician Assistant. After retiring from the Air Force he joined Burke Primary Care.

Vaassen leads Burke Occupational Health which specializes in occupational health care for employers including preventative services, pre-placement and post offer services, injury and illness diagnosis and treatment and return-to-work programs.
